American Golden Plover Spotted in Kent
This rare bird has been spotted only four times in the county, the last time was in 1987.
A grant of £270,000 to Kent Wildlife Trust was awarded in 2005 through our Biodiversity Challenge Fund. This is a four year project to develop and enhance the biodiversity value of this National Coastal Nature Reserve, Sandwich & Pegwell Bay. The aims of the project are: - Increase the native biodiversity through habitat creation
- Enhance an internationally important site of nature conservation for the benefit of rare species
- Raise levels of public awareness and involvement in caring for our precious natural environment
- Encourage more visitors by improving access and providing a quality wildlife and nature conservation experience.
We are delighted that this significant bird has been spotted, only 18 months into the project. More
