All grants are subject to projects meeting GrantScape's Generic Grant-making Policy as well as the Specific Funding Criteria detailed below
Fund Overview:
The Woodford Community and Environmental Fund has approximately £140,000 available per year.
Typically, 70% of available funding will be allocated to projects located within 5 miles of the Woodford Waste Management landfill site near Warboys in Cambridgeshire.
There are two funding rounds each year, with decisions usually announced in February and August/September.
Grants will be awarded for amounts between £5,000 and £35,000. By exception, up to £50,000 may be considered.
Match Funding will not be required.
Contributing Third Party (CTP) Donation:
Match funding is not necessary. However, applicants will need to identify an individual or organisation willing to make an 11.42% CTP donation to the landfill operator (Woodford Waste Management Services Limited) in order to release any grant that is awarded. The CTP donation covers the landfill operator’s costs in providing the grant, plus associated fees.
If you prefer, the CTP donation can be made by your own organisation. In all cases, though, the CTP donor must not derive a unique benefit from the project going ahead and their CTP donation must not be made up of Landfill Communities Fund (LCF) monies. Also, there must be no connection between the CTP and any of the contractors carrying out the project.

Project Location:
All projects must be located within 10 miles of the Woodford Waste Management landfill site, near Warboys, Huntingdon (PE28 2TX).
Project Purpose:
Grants will be available for community and environmental projects delivering improvements to public amenities, including projects that support nature conservation objectives. Examples may include:
- Village halls
- Village greens
- Public playgrounds
- Sports fields and facilities
- Nature reserves
- Community centres
- Cycle paths
- Country parks
Projects must comply with the requirements of the Landfill Communities Fund (LCF). If you are in any doubt whether your project meets these requirements, please contact GrantScape.
Public Access Requirements:
Projects must be available and open to the general public - as a minimum, for 4 evenings a week, or 2 days a week, or 104 days a year.
Ineligible Applicants:
- Organisations operating for the purpose of making and distributing profit
- Schools
- Individuals
- Membership- based sports clubs and facilities (e.g. bowls and golf clubs), unless membership is open to the general public without undue restriction.
Project Exclusions:
Grants will not be available for:
- Projects that have already been completed (retrospective funding)
- Projects that are considered statutory requirements
- Projects that are solely aimed to meet the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act
- Projects that are located on private land
- Funding for core costs
Judging Criteria:
The main criteria used when assessing applications received will be:
- The level of community support for and involvement in the project
- The local community benefit (social, economic and environmental) which will result from the project
Other factors will also be considered which must be demonstrated in the application:
- The ability of the applicant to deliver the project
- How the work will be continued after the project has been completed, i.e. its sustainability and legacy
- Value for money
