Closed Loop Recycling Initiative

Closed loop recycling is a new concept in the UK focusing on sustainable packaging for the food and beverage industry. This is achieved by working with iconic retail and fast food organisations and venues to tackle packaging waste. By using recycled food and beverage packaging, which is then recycled again after use and turned into new packaging, the demand for recyclable materials is increased. This offers a truly sustainable alternative to using virgin packaging that is sent to landfill after use.

As one practical example of the waste disposal savings that can be realised by implementing closed loop recycling at major public events, the seminar highlighted the 2006 npower Test Match against Pakistan, held at the Brit Oval, when the recycling rate achieved was an impressive 50%.

London Remade's project has been supported by GrantScape through a grant of £500,000 using Landfill Communities Fund monies kindly provided by Waste Recycling Group Ltd.
