OutLook June 2008

June 2008

New Grant Programme for Nature Conservation Projects

In the March edition of OutLook, we emphasised GrantScape’s continuing commitment to supporting the UK’s biodiversity.

We are now delighted to announce the launch of the first of our three planned grant programmes for 2008: the “GrantScape Local Nature Conservation Challenge” for Bedfordshire and Luton. The initiative is supported by Bedfordshire County Council and by “BedsLife - Biodiversity Forum for Bedfordshire and Luton”.

Image of a Brimstone ButterflyGrants will be available through the new programme to not-for-profit groups, charities, local authorities and town/parish councils with community projects designed to benefit a selection of the County’s most important habitats for conservation. These cover ponds, orchards and veteran trees, ancient and/or species-rich hedgerows, churchyards and semi-natural roadside verges, plus all the wildlife that they support.

GrantScape has £100,000 to give out, and applications can be made for grants between £5,000 and £25,000. Monies can be spread over two years and no match funding or Contributing Third party donations are required.

The “GrantScape Local Nature Conservation Challenge” is open from 2nd June, with a closing deadline for all applications of 12 noon on 8th September 2008. Decisions will then be announced in late November/early December.

GrantScape’s Biodiversity Challenge Fund - Update

image of Biodiversity Challenge Fund logoOver the last three years, we have awarded £8 million to 20 major biodiversity projects across England and Wales through our national “Biodiversity Challenge Fund”. Additionally, GrantScape has supported many more nature conservation projects at a local level. In Bedfordshire, these have included the Bedfordshire Otters and Rivers Project, and habitat works at the Forest of Marston Vale’s Millennium Country Park.

For 2008, we have allocated further funds to cover three new grant programmes:

- The “GrantScape Local Nature Conservation Challenge” for Bedfordshire and Luton

- A new Challenge Fund for projects enhancing urban biodiversity in Inner London

- Our annual national Biodiversity Challenge Fund

Further details of the last two grant programmes will be made available through OutLook and on our website later this year, so please watch this space.
