GrantScape Biodiversity Challenge Fund - Update

Preparations for our £300,000 Inner London Nature Conservation Challenge and £1.3 million national Biodiversity Challenge Fund 2008 are going well. We will be launching these grant programmes in November/early December and details will be made available both through OutLook and on our website.

Featured Project

Image of Daniels MillIn this edition of OutLook, our featured project is Daniels Mill near Bridgnorth which GrantScape recently helped to restore to full water power with a grant of £67,500. Completion of the project in July represented a real "good news" story - for the historic watermill, the miller’s family and the many tourists who will now gain increased enjoyment from visiting this iconic heritage attraction. more

Following completion of the project, we were also delighted to receive the following very positive feedback from Daniels Mill Trust:

"The flexibility of GrantScape in both allowing and supporting our work to proceed and meet, as it eventually transpired, very tight project milestones, was a particular asset to us, and strength of theirs. This was equalled by the availability, flexibility and valued support of our appointed Grant Officer, who was excellent. Claims were turned round speedily which importantly helped our cash flow situation – always a major issue for grant receivers!

It has been a pleasure to work with GrantScape…Both project and grant experience were a resounding success." Mrs. Anne Dingley, Trustee

GrantScape Local Nature Conservation Challenge

In June’s edition of OutLook we announced the launch of the first of our three planned biodiversity grant programmes for 2008 - the £100,000 GrantScape Local Nature Conservation Challenge. This programme has been specifically designed to support small community projects benefiting a selection of Bedfordshire and Luton’s most important habitats for conservation, as identified in the "BedsLife" Local Biodiversity Action Plans.

We are pleased to report a very good response from local groups to the Challenge. By the closing deadline on 8th September, we had received 13 applications seeking some £205,000 of grants for projects costing over £250,000. The projects cover key works on all five of our chosen priority habitats, i.e. ponds, orchards, ancient and species-rich hedgerows, churchyards and semi-natural roadside verges.

Decisions on grant awards (between £5,000 and £25,000) will be announced in late November.Image of CWM Environmental logo

CWM Community and Environmental Fund

The latest round of the CWM Community and Environmental Fund for projects in Carmarthenshire closed on 12th September. Ten applications were received on this occasion, seeking just over £464,000 for projects with a combined value of £1.47 million. Details of decisions will be announced in late November.

Applications to the next funding round are now invited. moreImage of Caird Bardon logo

Caird Bardon Community Programme

The thirteen groups that submitted applications to the Caird Bardon Community Programme by its 30th June deadline will shortly be told whether or not they have been awarded a grant by our Grants Committee. The total amount applied for this round by groups in West Yorkshire was nearly £550,000, with the projects having a combined cost of nearly £1.9 million.

Applications to the next funding round are now invited. more
