'Working with Nature' – Grant Awards Announcement, August 2009
We are delighted to announce the successful applicants to GrantScape’s 2009 'Working with Nature' grant programme.
In all, we received 35 grant applications from across England and Wales, seeking a total of £8.3 million in funding. These were all of a very high quality and designed to deliver substantial biodiversity gains.
GrantScape’s trustees, supported by an independent specialist advisory panel, have now selected five projects to receive grants. These projects were chosen for the significance of their biodiversity value and the important contributions that they are expected to make to national biodiversity objectives.
The £1.16 million now awarded takes GrantScape’s total grant-making through our 'Biodiversity Challenge' and 'Working with Nature' programmes to nearly £10 million since 2005. We would like to thank Waste Recycling Group Limited who very kindly provided the monies for these grant programmes through the Landfill Communities Fund.

Supporting Inner London's Biodiversity
A £300,000 grant programme was launched in July 2008 specifically targeted at conserving and enhancing biodiversity in Inner London. This was our first grant programme dedicated to supporting urban biodiversity.
The programme (called the ‘Inner London Nature Conservation Fund’) was designed with assistance from the London Biodiversity Partnership, the GLA and the London Boroughs Biodiversity Forum. Its launch was supported by the Mayor of London, naturalist Nick Baker, and London Biodiversity Partnership Manager Nick White.
The main judging criterion used in assessing the applications received was the biodiversity value of applicants’ projects; specifically, how projects will help meet the London Biodiversity Action Plan’s goals. In choosing between projects, we also looked to support the Mayor of London’s objective to improve Londoners’ access to nature, particularly where there is a present deficiency.
We have now announced the grant awards made (subject to contract) to the successful groups and their projects. More
Workshops for Landfill Communities Fund (LCF) Grant Applications
Following the success of our third one day training workshop, we are providing another opportunity to attend this valuable course. Designed specifically to help organisations wishing to improve their chances of securing an LCF grant, it covers all funding categories under the LCF, but specialises in biodiversity projects. The next course will be held in London on Tuesday 20th October 2009 and there are places available if you would like to attend. More
