Local Projects Celebrate Funding from Reaps Moss Community Fund

Seven local groups have been selected to receive grants through the Reaps Moss Community Fund. The deserving groups this year will share a windfall of over £11,000 from the Reaps Moss Wind Farm.

The local Reaps Moss Wind Farm has been providing funding through its Community Fund since 2016. The groups selected to receive funding this year join a growing list of other recipients who have benefitted from the Fund since it launched. So far 38 groups, all located in close proximity to the Wind Farm site, have benefitted from almost £64,000 in grant funding.

Scooping the largest individual grant this year was Todmorden in Bloom who will use a grant of £2,672 to regenerate the Patmos Memorial Garden on Burnley Road, Todmorden. The volunteers have already been at work on the project making the most of the summer sunshine.

Receiving this year’s smallest, though no less deserving grant, were Aged Blind and Disabled Centre (Bacup) Charitable Trust. They will receive £779 to provide stage lighting to enable them to put on community events and performances at the ABD Centre on Burnley Road, Bacup.

On hearing they had been selected to receive a grant, Peter Dunn, Centre Development Manager commented: “This is fantastic news! This funding will enable us to re-engage with vulnerable adults who have been isolated due to Covid. After Covid a lot of work will be needed to address social isolation and mental ill-health and this funding will allow us to put community events on and support people back into the centre / community.”

Also receiving a grant this year are Stacksteads Countryside Park Group (SCPG) who have scooped £1,275 for their project ‘Make the Cycleway Beautiful’. The project will see the community work with a local artist to create wooden plaques of local wildlife which will be erected along the cycleway that runs through Britannia.

Jackie Oakes, Trustee of SCPG commented: “We are delighted that we are able to extend the project to the Reaps Moss Community Fund area of benefit. This is an activity that can be enjoyed by residents of all ages and the plaques already displayed in Stacksteads show the hidden talent in the village! Support for the project has been fantastic and the cycleway will be brightened up to be enjoyed by everyone who uses it.”

Other local groups also able to deliver services and make improvements to their facilities thanks to grant support are Cotton Shed Theatre Group, TodWalkers, Bacup Pride and Stacksteads Band.

The Fund distributes £10,000 annually over the 20 – 25 year lifetime of the project. Groups located in the Fund’s specified funding ‘zone’ which covers Todmorden and the Greensclough, Irwell and Stacksteads wards of Bacup, can apply for grants of between £250 and £3,500.

The next application deadline for the Fund is 23 February 2022.
