The Estuary League of Friends
The Estuary League of Friends secured a grant of £12,265 from the Coastal Recycling Community Fund in December 2016.
This ambitious, circa £2 million project, aimed to convert the Topsham Library site into a multi-purpose Community Hub.
Since 2016, the group have managed to secure the necessary funding from a number of different grant providers and construction of the two-storey contemporary building was completed in June 2018.
Rachel Gilpin, Chief Executive of The Estuary League of Friends, said:
“We have been overwhelmed with how positively the new building has been received by the community. We anticipated 4,200 visitors in the first year of opening and yet welcomed 3,400 visitors in the first week alone! We have forged new partnerships with other local providers who are operating from the Community Hub to offer the community as wide a range of services and activities as possible – The Stroke Association, Bluebird Care, Virgin Healthcare, Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service, etc.”
New services and activities on offer at the Hub include:
- Laundry facilities
- Exercise classes including ARNI Rehabilitation for stroke survivors
- Baby health checks
- Personal care (help with washing and toileting for people with extremely limited mobility)
- Bloodpressure checks
- Needlecraft classes
- Community Café
