Bacup and Todmorden share £10,000 windfall
Seven highly deserving local groups have been busy over the summer spending £10,000 in grant money which they scooped earlier in the year from the Reaps Moss Community Benefit Fund.
Bacup received both the largest and the smallest individual grant awards. Bacup Cricket Club received £2,052 to help support both their junior and senior coaching programme during the 2017 season. Acre Mill Baptist Church has used £250 to purchase new toys and equipment for their popular mums and tots group.
Moorlands Park also received £2,024 to enable Rossendale Borough Council to improve the sunken garden area. Rossendale United Junior Football Club has kicked off the football season in style with new goal posts at their home The Glen.
Not to be outdone by their Lancashire neighbours, three community groups in Todmorden also claimed their share of the available funding ‘pot’.
Incredible Farm CBS were awarded £2,000 towards a new greenhouse at their new farm location at Healey Clough.
The Age UK building in the centre of Todmorden has also been improved thanks to £2,500 from the Fund and the hard work of local volunteers. Visitors to the building will be welcomed into a newly decorated and furnished space.
Last but by no means least, later this year when the rest of us are staying indoors, The Friends of Centre Vale Park will be out planting a new hedgerow around the wetland area within the park. The grant of £519 will purchase the bare root hedging plants and the volunteers will do the hard work.
Liz Payne, Manager of the Fund said: “This is the second year the Fund has been running and I’m really pleased to see such a variety of projects being supported. I’d encourage local groups to get in touch and see if they too could access grant support for their community project.”
Monies for the Community Fund are provided by Hastings Funds Management UK (Hastings) who manage the Reaps Moss wind farm which is located on the moors between Bacup and Todmorden. This annual Fund will distribute £10,000 each year for the expected 20-25 year lifetime of the wind farm. GrantScape administer the Fund.
